Bolsonaro has been detained after authorities found he posed a concrete flight risk while under home confinement.

The ex-president was sentenced of plotting a armed takeover in last fall and sentenced more than 27 years in prison, but he continued under house arrest pending court reviews.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice the presiding justice said the move to detain the 70-year-old politician was a preventative measure after recent developments were revealed.

This encompassed trying to remove his electronic bracelet and a call for a demonstration that could "allow for a chance to flee".

Latest Court Petitions

It was only on Friday that the ex-leader's attorneys asked the High Court to authorize him to fulfill his full incarceration period under domestic detention, with tracking devices.

They also petitioned that Bolsonaro be allowed to exit his dwelling for healthcare, saying he required ongoing care for respiratory ailments and other ailments.

Details of Guilty Verdict

Bolsonaro was found guilty of heading a conspiracy aimed at keeping him in power after he lost the 2022 election to his ideological adversary, President Lula.

Supreme Court justices said that he was aware of a plan which involved plans to assassinate the current president and his vice-presidential running mate, his vice-presidential candidate, and to detain and kill the presiding judge - the top judicial official who has been managing his judicial proceedings.
